Fall season is upon us and its also a time when many plants and industries utilize the cooler weather to perform plant turnarounds and major equipment maintenance. Some plants choose to perform a partial plant outage while others prefer to take the entire plant down for scheduled maintenance.
This month Bevel Tech Group, Inc would like to highlight the many services we provide to the plants and industry. We already are performing some of these services for turnarounds and plant outages in the area and have more scheduled in the next few months.
NCCER Certified Millwright Services
NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) develops standardized construction and maintenance curricula and assessments. Bevel Tech Group, Inc is a NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor and an Accredited Assessment Center. All our Millwrights have ascertained the NCCER certification.
Our certified millwright services include maintenance and repair, new installation, and preservation of various types of equipment. Bevel Tech Group, Inc. has experience in all aspects of installation and repairing equipment including pumps of any type, mixers, gearboxes, conveyers, bucket elevators, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, steam and gas turbines, blowers and fans, and much more.
Field Machining Services
Besides the many millwright services listed above, Bevel Tech Group, Inc also provides a wide array of other services, specializing in performing many of these services at our Customer’s site or alternate locations.
We routinely perform pipe cutting with our pneumatic split frame clamshell pipe cutting machines. We also perform pipe beveling and flange facings of various sizes. We own and stock most of our equipment so that there is no long wait for a machine to be delivered to us. We also have tool and equipment rental services, providing state of the art equipment rentals to Customers who choose to provide the manpower to perform some of these tasks.

Line Isolation and Weld Test Services
Our line isolation and test tool services can positively isolate and monitor potentially explosive vapors while performing the hot work on the upstream line. It can then be slightly moved to effectively hydrotest the new weld connection utilizing the same tool while using a minimum amount of water or test median. This provides the customer with an approved means of isolation and weld test while minimizing the hydrotest median volume.
Our standard isolation/test tools range from 3/4 inches to 36 inches and are available at your request. We have the tools for multi-schedule piping and can reach test pressures up to 2250 psi. If a size larger than 36 inches is needed, contact us with your pipe size and schedule and specific info and we can see if we can supply you with one.
And last but not least, don’t forget about the MONEY saved by eliminating the de-inventoring and decontamination of lines and vessels, and the elimination of scaffolding needed for various blinding points when using our line isolation and weld test services.
Hydraulic Bolt Torquing Services
We utilize a wide range of compact, light, safe, and easy to use hydraulic torque tools for loosening and/or tightening the bolts. We offer services to tighten bolts while equipment is in service (hot bolt), or services to loosen and tighten bolts during plant maintenance, turnarounds, partial unit shutdowns, or equipment outages.
Hydraulic bolt torquing can save you time vs other conventional bolting techniques and many companies have critical paths to conform to during their shutdowns, so hydraulic bolt torquing can help our Customers meet their critical path schedules.
Recognized as an industry standard for leak prevention, hydraulic bolt torquing can help to prevent leaks on flanges, exchangers, vessels, or on any application where tightness of bolts is critical to prevent leaks.

Job Description: I started in the industry at the age of 19 as a Millwright helper. Over the years I have adapted to whatever work was needed for me to perform from pipefitting, welder, iron worker, civil work and heavy equipment operator. I am proud to say that I have over 20 years in the industry and I am still young enough to learn new things, but more importantly I pride myself in teaching the next generation of workers in the skill set and thinking process that is needed to do our job effectively and safely. I strive everyday to be the leader that I have learned from and hope that I can pass along a positive and responsible attitude.
Bio: I have been married to Chara Thigpen for 13 years. We have a son, Layton who is attending his sophomore year at St. Amant High School. On my off time we enjoy the baseball life, motocross, being around family and friends, and living life to the fullest.
Bevel Tech Group, Inc was recently featured in the Oil and Gas Journal Supplement related to the work performed on Chevron’s Jack / St Malo deepwater project in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Jack / St Malo project is a key part of Chevron’s plan to boost its global production. The reservoirs are 25 miles apart, located about 280 miles southwest of New Orleans, Louisiana. Water depths are approximately 7,000 feet deep at the project site, and the reservoirs lie some five miles below the water surface.
Bevel Tech Group, Inc provides critical, precision machining of the ID and OD of deepwater pipe and components from three (3) inches to twenty eight (28) inches onsite with our proprietary CNC machines. The ability to mobilize almost anywhere in the world is a key cost savings benefit provided by Bevel Tech Group, Inc. The design of our portable CNC counterboring machines provide consistent quality results and minimizes schedule times by about four (4) times quicker than traditional manual pipe boring machines.

CHEVRON JACK ST MALO PUBLICATION
Bevel Tech Group Inc provides Line Isolation and Hydrostatic Weld Testing using some of the
finest designed tools in the industry.
Line isolation has become a valuable service for industries because it can be performed safely and
can save considerable time and money for the Customer. The ability to isolate a line with our designed
tool can eliminate much of the pre-work associated with performing a tie-in, connection, or even
performing hot work on a line.
Using our tool can eliminate steps such as extensive decontamination of the line thus eliminating
numerous blinding points and scaffolding for those blinding points. This substantially reduces time
and costs for the Customer.
Our isolation tool has the combined ability to monitor the seals of the tool and to monitor upstream
pressure while venting to a safe location. There are two o’rings that are constantly monitored by the
pressurized medium filled zone in the annulus space between them. A gauge on the tool shows constant
static pressure, verifying the integrity of the seals and guarantees we have a positive isolation throughout
the duration of the planned work scope.
If needed, we can circulate medium around the annulus of our tool that allows the o’rings to remain intact
for high heat procedures such as PWHT, bake outs, or stress relieving.
Once welding has been completed, the same tool that was used for the isolation can be slightly repositioned
over the new weld and a localized hydrostatic weld test can be performed with just ounces of the testing
medium. Our tool can test weld neck flanges, slip on flanges, socket weld flanges, orifice flanges, branch
connections, and more.

Started off working as a helper and over the years worked my way up to Operations Manager. I helped start the CARBER offshore division and managed the Baton Rouge operations for 8 years. Metrology Services – PEMS – Pipe End Measurement System
Bevel Tech Group Inc has a long history of working with companies in the deep-water oil exploration business. When we first started counterboring deep water pipe ends for these companies many years ago, everything was new to both the oil companies and Bevel Tech Group Inc. We started counterboring pipe ends with manually operated clamshells and performed all measurements with calipers. As deep-water depths increased, tolerance specifications for the piping, especially steel catenary riser piping grew much tighter. Bevel Tech Group Inc was the leader in performing this kind of work, and we essentially became the “experts” in this technology. We have counterbored thousands of pipe ends that now are in production in the Gulf of Mexico.
As business in this area grew, and tolerances because so much more stringent, we invested time and money to develop several of our own proprietary CNC machines that easily exceeded the limits required by our customers. Our proprietary CNC machines would produce 4 times the amount of production than the manually operated machines. Bevel Tech Group Inc wrote counterboring procedures and specifications that were adopted by the major oil companies and are still used today.
Another need of the major oil companies was to have 3rd party verification measurement processes of all pipe ends. This was especially important after the incident of the Deep Water Horizon disaster. That’s when PEMS became another valuable service for our clients.
PEMS is a pipe end laser measurement system (laser) developed by Bevel Tech Group Inc as an alternative to the traditional caliper measurements for pipe ends. The PEMS laser measurement system can be used prior to counterboring to help companies determine the optimum diameter bore of the deep water pipe. And of course, it can be used to validate the target specifications of all pipe ends after counterboring is completed. PEMS is capable of providing over 2000 wall thickness measurements per pipe end and delivers the data in a friendly Excel spreadsheet.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to, field operations, R&D of the PEMS Laser tool and software, data compilation & reporting, training of PEMS personnel and working sales in conjunction with our dedicated sales staff.

Twenty years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Upon graduating high school in 1996, in order to pay for further education, I began my career at the age of 17 as a welder helper at Acadian Contractors Inc. Attended Gulf Area Technical College in Abbeville Louisiana and graduated in 1998 with a degree in Drafting & Design Technology. Soon after I secured a job at Corne Lemaire Group (Architecture firm) in Lafayette Louisiana as a draftsman. However my career in the architecture field was short lived. After 18 months I realized that I had a strong passion for fieldwork and therefore the oil and gas sector was a better personal career path. In 2001 I managed a steel distributor company named Sam Guarino & Co in Abbeville, La. In 2003 I was hired by SPT Energy Group located in Abbeville Louisiana. I worked there as both Operations Manager and End Dimension Manager for 12 years.
Married in July of 2002 to Mandy Meaux, and blessed in 2009 with a set of healthy twins, Benjamin and Emmalyn.
